Are Plastic Wine Glasses A Waste Of Time?
When a picnic is mentioned, what is the first thing that enters your head? Is it the land and the views that are going to hit you? Is it the prospect of digging into the lovely food that you or your partner may have produced? Or possibly it is the idea that when settled, you can look forward to a lovely glass of wine? The truth should be a little of most of these. Not only will you be healthy by being outside of your house. You are probably going to be eating healthy fresh food, made at home by yourself.
So what wine should be the perfect accompanyment to the picnic? This, to me, is a matter of taste and whether you have sufficient means at your disposal to keep a white wine nice and cool. If you havent, then plump for a nice easy going red like a Fitou or an Italian Chianti. This red always goes down nicely with a little bit of strong cheese. I am married to a Spaniard, so we are never short of something delicious like a Manchego, which is similar to cheddar. With a good bottle of wine, should be a decent wine glass. But should you really be taking glass on a picnic? It is not light to lug around, and invariably breaks enroute. I like to take plastic glasses with me, which are durable and light. There is often a slight loss of taste which is the trade off. I like wine glasses because of the shapes that suit different sorts of wine. A red wine glass tends to be large and spacious to allow the flavor to circulate. A white wine glass tends to be typically smaller as the flavours are generally more subtle.
Whatever you choose, just make sure that you find somewhere where you can relax and forget the pressures of your everyday lifestyle.
